I'm importing stock from Hong Kong, will I have to pay VAT?

Is there anyway around it? Or does everyone have to pay vat on items imported?

thanks.

So does the seller pay any VAT, or can the VAT be included in the price you pay to the supplier? As I've read on here that sometimes they (the supplier) do so the importer (me) doesn't have to, or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

Hi, there's an old thread about VAT (only difference, now at 15%):
Importing from China in to the UK. A few questions.
For duties, you can look up your product in the hated, messy "tariff":
http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/bdotg/action/tariff
Hope this helps

Am I right in saying if the total cost of the items imported is less than £290 theres a flat rate of customs duty of 2.5%.

Plus I read that customs duty is only paid on imported goods of more than £120, if thats true would my supplier sending 2 packages instead of 1 larger one be to my advantage?

thanks.
