An interesting topic and alligned to my comments on the RL threads much to certain peoples annoyance!!

It is also worth pointing out that genuine goods can also incure the wrath of the legal firms that act for the brands when they have their distribution licenses completely tied up in a country. This has happened in Germany for one and a few other places where large compensation(fines) have been collected from individuals selling the brands product without their implicit agreement.

I say this time and time again , its all about `Due dilligence ` you must know your seller.
The trouble is with the growth of counterfeits and the internet, almost anybody can set up in their bedroom and generate an internet presence selling hooky gear bought from China / India/ Sri Lanka . They will never travel there to meet the sellers have no real idea what they are buying, most are the same as them , young nationals sitting in their bedrooms or internet cafes selling what the local factory produces and making a few dollars in the process. Its easy and they will tell you what you want to hear, good s are authentic, slight seconds, my brother works there , etc etc etc.

If this is how you want to operate then be prepared for the arm of the law to eventually catch up with you . Most people seems to think it wont happen to them , but having goods sent from your home address, cheques being delivered etc all make it so so easy to be caught.

What Riki says is totally correct, I would also like to add that as far as I am aware Trading Standards are still self funding and are keen to produce results so that any costs and fines help to keep the department funded. they are quite keen to get results and in some nstances do quite a bit of legwork before they eventually take the bull by the horns and confront somebody. Often they have all the answers before they ask the questions !!

If you want to be a designer clothing seller, do it properly or not at all. Fly out to meet suppliers, check the goods out and obtain correct paperwork if needed .
You will not find genuine big clothing brands like Rl, A&F , CK , Armani , Lacoste ,Prada, Burberry etc on Allibaba , EC21, Dhgate or any of the other trading platforms.

Ste,

I think it would be of great help if you could write a guide on how to spot fake clothing even if it is Just for RL. There seems to be alot of people on the forum dealing with clothes and I'm sure it would be of great importance to community members if you could spare the time.

regards

There is a Made in USA law that states anything imported should have the country of origin visible. I would think there is something similar in other countries. It's illegal to alter or remove that information.

Some call it COO for country of origin. Tight rules, if you are assembling let's say a table lamp and most of the pieces are imported, the best you can get by with is Assembled in US with import contents, or words to the affect.

They caught a plumbing contractor at the Norfolk Navy Yard grinding "made in Korea" or some country off of cast plumbing fittings being used on a government contract. He got a lot more than a hand-slap over that.

As mentioned, each case can be treated totally differently, so a woman selling some copy dvd's can end up going to jail with her kids being put into care, whilst someone else selling hundreds of thousands of hookey gear might walk free.

Best advice is to simply steer well clear and sleep well at night.

I did write a small article on Rl as a wholesale product on General discussion and also another memebr I believe t was Orchid clothing added a good PDF guide on Rl polo shirts. To be honest there is not much more than can be said than hasn`t been said before. Whether or not others take note , understand it or want to understand it is of course another matter!

Can anyone help? I have had a box of 10 pairs of uggs seized by customs, I have just received a letter from solicitors acting on behalf of Deckers asking me to sign a declaration and to provide details of the website where I purchased them, has anyone else received a similar letter? If so, did you sign or what would happen if I ignored it? Please help I'm scared of having to pay a huge fine?

If you ignore the letter, then your package will most likely be held until you sign the letter or might get destroyed. May I ask where you bought these Uggs from? Was it from the Far East?

Thanks.

I'm afraid you have bought counterfeit goods - as for the letter, read what it says and post what is written on the letter.
