How Long Do Customs Keep The Shipment?

I have tracked my package which was sent from hong kong and it arrived in the UK on the 26th and passed over to customs the same day, 3 days later I've heard nothing, could someone lmk the procedure, i.e How long do they keep it?, will they send it on with the bill? Or do I have to contact them?

call your courier company for an update but customs should be a quick proceedure for courier work unless there is a route 1 on it for example

What was in the package and what airport did it come through ?

i had the same problem, contact the courier company, they are probably holding your parcel until you pay the clearance fee, unless customs are holding it, in which case you will recieve a letter.

Thanks for the replies it stated when I tracked it that after it arrived at coventry airport it was passed to customs, that was 3 days ago, so I should expect a letter soon?

I had a shipment 'awaiting customs charging' for 5 days which has just arrived. So I wouldn't necessarily say you have anything to worry about at this stage.

In future I'd avoid using EMS though.
