Default Customs Inspected my Parcel - Sender Lied on Declared Value and Description: Cost $32

I import various clothing accessories and hats for my company.

I imported 200 hats within 2 packages. Declared value of 22 USD for each parcel.
I was in customs for 20 days... and then released and delivered the next day by Express Mail.

The value of the hats were actually 1.4K USD... on the customs, it states for the 2 parcels, the Customs Inspector declared it 300 dollars total for both packages.

I am from the US and imported from China... I hear all this talk about customs and duty tax... but is it even that much? I am just going to tell all of my supplier to place the real value of the items with an invoice for all my packages.... I don't mind a few dollars in tax to get my packages 3+ weeks sooner...

Te tax rate was 8.375% I think... that still lowest your margin, but just increases the cost per unit buy a few cents. Not bad.

However.. I am sure Customs has listed my Name and/or address.. and will inspect all further packages. However, I can always have my parcels shipped to another address with a different name or company name.

They probably have listed your details, doesn't measn they'll inspect every package you recieve, maybe the next few you get but if you make sure your suppliers put the correct value they will soon stop I would assume.
