Incorrect. You still pay landed costs/taxes on gifts above £36.

And one more thing , i've just remembered, I have been receiving used lap tops as a gift from United States and never paid a penny ? :-{ I know there is no Import Duty, but how did I avoid paying VAT knowing that it has not been paid on the other end.

It appears you are in a routine of importing goods without properley declaring their value & that will only end up with you getting into a lot of trouble, HMRC are not stupid it will only be a matter of time before they catch up with you!

If I where you i'd think carefully before importing as "gifts" in the future :niceone:

mdsltd: You didn't quite get me mate, I never "cover" my stuff as a gifts, I route them as a freight, this particular situation it's completely different , and happened when my father really has sent me a laptop, but I end up not paying for it at all. And no one claims that HMRC are stupid, u went a bit too far mate.. even though it might seem from my posts that im "on it"

I went a bit too far? I was mearly passing comment in relation to the question & answers you have made. It appears by your own omissions you have been importing without declaring the true value & whilst I honestly couldnt give a rats arse what you do I was simply pointing out what may happen if you get caught, not going too far in my opinion.... mate
