I don't know if this have had been posted before, couldn't find it(VAT is too short word for search crawler).

On this site, you will be able to check whether your contractors VAT number is valid or not. All scammers are doing everything to avoid giving you the VAT number(they don't have it anyway)

I asked two contacts from EU to give me their VAT number so I could verify them. Both said that they are registered company, and both remain silent since I said, I need to verify your VAT.

Very useful information, thanks for that. Just veryfied my own VAT Number to test it.

Vat numbers can still be used by scammers , reason being you could use someone's elses vat number, you then give the number to the seller , the sellers then veryfies the number , , when the check is done they don't see who the vat number belongs to , just the the vat number exists.

If you call UK HMRC, you can varify the details of the supplier details with them
