Default Greetings to Wholesale Forum

Hello,

My name is Jason Smith, I am currently a Junior Accountant at a firm of accountants in North Wales, studying ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants).

I am currently looking at starting up in business, part-time, initially over the internet. I am interested in learning what i can from others experiences as well as providing what insight i can into my own experiences as and when they come.

Though normally I would prefer to get all the facts laid out before me before i put up some capital, I am happy to dabble here and there to get the actual hands on experience which no amount of reading can provide.

For example a few months back me and my partner spent a fair amount of time debating over selling jewellery (on eBay initially), we had found a source whom dealt with end of line stock or unsold "old" stock, therefore we were able to pick up some relatively nice jewellery for a low enough percentage to make eBay selling viable (taking into account the competition and fees). So we purchased a specific lot or selection of jewellery and sold it on eBay.
The end result being that we probably broke even or made a small profit. Buying this small lot gave us an insight into buying and selling, the processes involved, and the particular supplier. It also provided us with our first taste of fraud, with some of the more expensive jewellery being snapped up but unfortunately it was a Nigeria Scam.

Other than selling items which had previously been used personally (getting rid of some of the old stuff floating around) this was my first experience as a trader.

Currently my aims and objectives are to set up an online retail business, preferably a website, which can be maintained by myself, but with scope to employee both of my parents as they reach retirement age etc. Not that i am planning on giving them a high salary, initially i am looking at being able to pay them a nominal £110.00 a week to make use of there personal allowances.

Future aims will be the slow and steady expansion of the business.

I would ideally like to achieve my current aims within the first 2 years of business, with future aims being achieved ideally after 4 years of business.

Thank you for your time.

Welcome to the forum J Smith. Started off as an ACCA accountant myself. Get taxation and auditing out of the way and its a breeze!

Found level 2 difficult to get through whilst working full time and I doubt very much if I could have squeezed in setting up a business too!

Good luck to you my friend.
