just registered on what loooks like a very informative site, well done. having taken a break from video games for almost over 10 years i am hoping to return once again.i first started in the good old days with the spectrum and commodore types and when the super famicom and megadrive were not available in the UK. importing was our main venture opening an office in hong kong and a few other places.we imported japanese games for the megadrive and super famicom (nintendo)we also designed and manufactured convertors to allow play of imported games on UK machines.we hit on a very good rental deal with some major video stores renting out games too,but all good things come to an end .comet and currys joined the never ending increase in the video game industry and to make things more complicated we had the new sega rental membership deals which did nothing but cripple the total rental business.can you remember what we called the sega police ?.game exchange was also hit very bad, it seamed that every fruitfull effort to regain profits was hit by another pitfall, and i think finally home made backups capped it all and i gave my decision to say goodbye to the industry. .I split with my business partner whom i believe he is still in the industry making millions, i have always wished him the very best, and i neede to spend more time with my fmaily and friends.so years and years have past and now my interest is back thanks to my grandson giving me a vote of confidence and also with what i think is a very good start with the xbox live and the ps3 to name a few, what better time to start trading.one major thing as changed since my departure, for every good seller over seas there seams to be 10 that are not.in the last 3 days i have been offered games and non can supply me with there company registration details.
so its a hello from me and my informative past doings and i hope you all have a prosperous future ahead.
any tips pointers suggestions greatly welcomed.

Good story, I think you will kick a55 trading now if you were successful 10/15 years ago.

IMHO, I think that it has got alot easier to source and sell products / services with the success of the internet compaired to years ago, when you just had to rely on a telephone and notepad!! Selling then I can imagine having to really work hard listing products in local papers, magazines etc etc. Now you can just click a few buttons and millions of people can see your items. Even things like finding out the legitmacy of a supplyer must be easier now, find some dodgy threads, stay away! You couldnt have done that years ago..

Of course its not all as easy as that, its STILL hard to make work, im just saying that you obviously have a mind for business if you could make a company work 'in the dark ages'.

yes your spot on with the sourcing new deals,it was a nightmare and even selling the goods in national mags was not something to take lightly.A 1/4 page add all those years ago could easily set you back 400.00 ,and we did advertise in approx 5 mags .one thing i can clearly remember was the exchange system, it was a massive market when i was around, all the big town stores like game and such never did exchanges so you can imagine how busy we were.but even that was eventually ruined with the vat charges,i saw many of my friends leave the industry, but all that as changed now i believe.one of my most popular sellers was ghost and goblins on the nintendo.customers would travel 100 miles to get the game from us because they just could not wait.and the format was either jap / usa..and it was 69.99....o the good old days....well i am sure the ps3 will eventually live up to its standards once the programmers can use its pure power to its full advantage,and the xbox 360 does have a very stable market hold , and again we have the wii with its new era idea and IMO aimed at the younger market which again makes up the 3 consoles covering a wider age gap,and finally not forgetting the handhelds, so i would say that yes todays market is a far cry from the good old days, but with a major improvement.
so i will just go with the flow
