Arrow July 08 - Member of the Month - hardwareheroes

Congratulations to hardwareheroes, this month's winner of the Member of the Month award.

HH as I will now abbreviate this member to (sorry I don't know your first name! ) has been a community member since October last year and has really made an impact around the forums of late. HH possess what I would call, great banter, he is a joy to have around the community and is not only knowledgeable in most areas of business but adds a great level humour to his contributions too.

Quite a few members have commented on what a great username hardwareheroes is, I for one would love to know the story behind it.

HH you fully deserve this month's recognition, well done!

[cough] [ahem] Unaccustomed as I am to public speaking, I would just like to thank all the people who made this award possible......

Seriously though, as I intimated before Anthony, this is, indeed, an unexpected honour. I honestly didn't realise I had contributed enough to these great forums to warrant such an accolade, however, first rule of business is to never look a gift horse in the mouth and therefore, I thank you humbly given the quality of previous MOTMs.

Although I have been registered for a while, I have only recently become more active due to work commitments finally becoming a little easier and allowing me time to contribute. I intend to hang around however, as this place has so much kindred spirit and a willingness to help others, its hard not to feel welcome.

My username was something I thought up with a view to selling computer hardware online (graphics cards, motherboards, processors etc). I didn't want to have something ordinary like Cpu's R US, Motherboards 2 go, etc etc. I was going to run vbulletin forums alongside the main online shop to offer technical support and friendly banter to customers and forum junkies alike, with different levels of hero as post counts/contributions increased rising as high as "superman" etc. I actually had this very project on the go quite succesfully 7 or 8 years ago but it was shut down when my wife (co-director) and I split up necessitating a life-review. Although margins were small, turnover grew exponentially and made it worthwhile. When I revisited the idea almost two years ago (hardwareheroes.co.uk), I found that I would need far too much capital to buy aggresively enough to make a living, the market had moved on so much in a few short years.

So there it is in a nutshell. I still keep the username and domain as I suspect something or other will materialise in the future with hardwareheroes so long as it doesn't interfere with other business ventures that are already running or are in the pipeline.

Kind Regards and thanks AGAIN

Ian
aka HardwareHeroes
