Default Importance of physical fitness

Physical exercise is important for maintaining physical fitness and can contribute positively to maintaining healthy weight, building and maintaining healthy bone density, muscle strength, and joint mobility, promoting physiological well-being, reducing surgical risks, and strengthening the immune system.Exercise has been shown to improve cognitive functioning via improvement of hippocampus-dependent spatial learning, and enhancement of synaptic plasticity and neurogenesis.

In longer term, exercise benefits our brain through:
1. increasing the blood and oxygen flow to the brain
2. increasing growth factors that help create new nerve cells and promote synaptic plasticity
3. increasing chemicals in the brain that help cognition, such as dopamine, glutamate, norepinephrine, and serotonin

The only physical exercise I like doing is:

Lifting my cigarette to my lips
Lifting my pint of Stella to my mouth
and making love to my good lady.

Not necessarily in that order!!!

I find exercise to be an important part of my day to day life.

Working in an accountants office 9 to 5 does not do wonders for the old fitness level, that I can confirm.
However if ever I am thinking something through and something just isn't clicking as such I like to go for a small amount of exercise to get my heart pumping and in a way freshen myself up.
For example, I am slowly working my way through the abundance of information that this site alone has to offer, but I could not just sit down and take it all in at once. If I hit that mental limit then I just go out and have a quick 10 - 15 minute jog. After that I can be back at my computer taking on board the advice I read, not just letting it pass over me.

But this may just be me.

I used to do lots of exercise, when I was in the army, so now I feel I have done enough exercise for a lifetime, and nows its time to follow my new fitness routine.

Get up in the morning
Have a ciggie
Have a another ciggie
Walk to my local Tesco - its only 5 mins away
But more ciggies
Walk home
Smoke more ciggies

Thats it, it works for me!
