Not really. Shorters just devalue peoples stocks. Many shorters go on the major investment boards and talk rubbish about a company in the hope they can reduce confidence...

They don't, they ensure that the stock prices actually fall to their true value and not inflated by manipulating the figures.

Market manipulation doesn't just apply to short selling.

I could sell 10 million shares that i don't own of a company and sell them in different sizes which would force the share price down, this is not putting the price down to its true value its manipulating the stock to make it look weaker than it is.

And you think that people don't do exactly the opposite too?

Many people ramp stocks to inflate the price as well. Market manipulation cuts both ways.

The whole issue with the banning of shorting banks was a red herring they were in trouble because of irrisponsible lending policies and bad management. Sure the shorting didn't help them but that is only because they put themselves in he ****
