whats the difference between a patent and copyright

I think a patent is something to do with a scientific breakthrough for new technology or any new invention.

A copyright is for something like a company name or a company itself. I think that's a good way to explain it, although I'm not 100% sure myself.

so what happens if i apply for a patent and then someone else comes along and tries to copy it and sell it as their own?

patent means you have authority to a tittle
copyright means legal right ganted for a specified time to a desginer to print publish or perform
