Comersus Shopping Cart
Whatsup, anybody using the free Comersus shopping cart on their pages?
It looks comprehensive, however I have my reservations on how customizable the front end is. I'm developing my own front end which i'm hoping to marry to one of the free carts out there. Looking at the ASP code I think I can teach myself how to modify things pretty easily, those programming classes will come in handy after all...
Anyway, enough rambling - your thoughts?

I downloaded is and gave it a look, but gave it up right away. Just would not suit my needs. I went with the CRE Loaded version of OSCommerce.
I've also used AgoraCart quite successfully, Only when I needed sub-categories did I start to look for anything else. Agora is also free.

As for comersus, I can't comment but I have found a few resources you could use..
Visit this page for lots of free info on using shopping carts;

Also check out this thread I created a little while ago;

Hope this helps,

Comersus seems, at first glance, to offer a different frontend to all the usual osc non modded carts etc that you see nowadays. I have no experience of it so cannot comment other than the visual side of things.
Osc seems to be the favoured cart and is so customisable that you really cannot fail to set up as you wish, some really great skins for it and its 'fairly' (as php goes) to modify it to your needs. Great forums as well....
I have a friend who is modding the top template on Template Monster (aff), ie. Item: #9048 (the gray one) to work with a Osc backend. Its taking him a while as he is learning as he goes but he is getting there.
Let us know what you decide and drop a link so we can check it out...
Mike

I use Mals e for one of my sites and find it the most comprehensie out there. I also have the CRE loaded version of OsCommerce for another site. The only trouble with that is that they're quite hard to customise so there's too many sites out there that look the same. Therefore I'll be changing mine to a customised one as soon as I have time.

I found CRE super buggy compared to Osc when I tried it, you have any issues with this?

Hey, I stumbled through the Comersus forums and came out with the distinct impression that customizing the front end will be an absolute nightmare. I'm checking out ZenCart at the moment and its looking pretty good - you can cusomize nearly every aspect provided you know a little HTML and PHP.
Cheers,

The only problem I have with my CRE version of OsCommerce is that the Shop By Price function doesn't work. No matter what range you choose it just shows all products in price order. I have posted on both the CRE and OsCommerce forums but no-one replies so I have had to disable that feature even though I would find it useful, and more so I think my visitors would find it more useful.

Ok, after a couple of weeks playing around with various options i've decided to make my own shopping cart. In the time it took me to try to figure out Comersus and oscommerce I could have learnt PHP and mySQL and created my own version anyhow.
So what did I learn?
1> Commersus and Oscommerce are excellent if you want to setup a shop using templates supplied by them.
2> If you want something a little more scaleable, go for cpcommerce, I found it pretty easy to understand and some of the sites on their forums are well customized.
3> If you already have a site that you like then learn PHP and mySQL, its easy and will make the integration of a cart into your page as easy as can be.
Cheers,

I just checked out zen cart and like giveusadeal said you can cusomize everything! so much better than Oscommerce. You dont realy need to know php just read a mysql tutorial on how to create a database. Upload the php files then chmod them. Thats it. Then just cusomize the shop front into your layout
