Cool I got a Question on Paypal

Hi, all

Here I got 1 question about Paypal. It's my housemate problem. He is not keen on using ebay and paypal.

Last 2 weeks he sold his new upgrade Mobile phone on ebay for £300+ . The buyer paid him by using Paypal verified but asking him to send the item to Japan for his Family. After my friend received the payment he transfer those money to his bank on the next day. However a week later he was informed by Paypal that that paypal account was hacked by someone. and the payment of £300+ is an unauthorised payment from the account holder. So paypal took those money out on hold. and his account balance is negative now. He already sent the phone to that address already and he didnt keep the bill or tracking number.

What he is wondering and I really dont know what to answer him is..
1 Can he just left that Paypal account balance being negative without transfer money back from the bank to paypal? because he said he doesnt need to use paypal anymore (he only trades on ebay 7 times within 5 years and this is his third time to sell the item on ebay)
2 will Paypal request the money directly from his Bank soon? Do they have the right to do it? (his paypal account is verified)
3 what paypal will do about this if he just leave the account balance being negative?

He already sent the item. when he emailed to that buyer he got no response back. he cannot get the item back obviously because the address is in Japan. so he doesn't wanna lose money.

I suggested him to close his paypal account but I dont really know if it will be ok or not. So I would like to ask anyone who know about this.

Thanks all.

They will only ask for the money back if he wishes to continue to use paypal,

Same thing happened to me so i just left the account as it was and walked away and they ocassionally send you emails asking for you to reopen you account by paying off the debt you owe but just ignore it

HTH

Yes, PayPal can deduct the money from his bank account. He will have to close that to be safe.

Remind him that forever is a long time and computers have long memories. While he may have no need of PayPal now, things may change.

And they might decide to take legal action.

The fact is that he got scammed, it was not payPal's fault. It was his fault and he should live up to the consequences. Paying voluntarily will be in his favor, should they decide to really push the matter.

If nothing else, they can inform the credit agencies of his unpaid debt, something that can cause him to pay more for a number of things as time goes by.

See above.

Walk away and never come back is what it amounts to. Burning bridges is never a good idea.

Any seller who uses ebay with paypal should tell buyers in the item description that they only accept paypal payments from verified users, shipping to a confirmed address. I've found that if you use BIN on popular electronics and dont state these terms then at least 1 in 5 buyers will be that horrible breed of paypal scammers who use nicked credit cards, you get payment and send it out, only for paypal to take it back, usually after your item has been shipped already.

Thank you for your all suggestion.

DJW49-you are absolutely right. Paypal always take money out and inform us after the item has already been shipped. So do Ebay, they always inform us that "Do Not pay for that item, Do Not sent the item to that seller" after the payment was made/ the item was shipped.

About Paypal, so if anyone want to buy something for not that expensive and we asked the seller to post by cheapest way (no tracking number). Then we can do charge back after we receive the item! and the the seller cannot do anything because he doesnt have tracking number! Do you agree?!?!?

It's easy to be scammed by both seller and buyer...
So whatever we do we really need to be careful
