Default need advise on opening a foreign bank account

could anyone advise me on how o open a foreign bank account. I am a south african resident and want to open a UK or European bank account. I would like to auction on ebay but paypal does not allow south africans to withdraw our money into our bank accounts here in SA.

With a bank account outside SA i can link my paypal account with my foreign bank account and the bank will issue me a debit card witch i can withdraw the money in SA.

Do anyone have any further or alternitive suggestions or advise for me what to do?

Your help is grealy appreciated.

thanks

But now it is in the right place, do you know anyone in "foreign parts" who would allow you to use their address as poste restante? I'm not sure if you need to fulfill full residential qualifications to hold a bank account. You'd certainly need at least an address in that country.

But hey, you're not sure where you are in a forum. Are you sure you'd be safe?

Do you need a postal address in each country, Weedog, or will they just let you open an account from where you are?

If so, Barclays used to be very big in SA. hat may open up possibilities for the UK and elsewhere.

No I use my current address here in the US all my statements etc get sent here , NO problems at all
I do all transfers etc online, If I am transferring over $1000 US I have to send them a fax and then they ring me back within one hour to confirm it

Barclays would also be a very good option especially if they have local branch's to set things up

Its one of those problems thats sounds hard ( especially with all the Teriosm funding/transfers that everyone is trying to stop ) but when you look into it and find the correct bank its amazing how easy it actually is

Yeah, Barclays used to have loads of branches in SA, but the anti-apartheid movement (UK) campaign led to them losing tons of business, so they pulled out. Then when apartheid was abolished, they went bcak in, I think it was via buying out another bank there. vito will know, or be able to find out.

Anyway, Barclays have hundreds of branches throughout the UK, I think, but certainly in England and Wales.

HSBC are worldwide, with branches in many countries and, again, hundreds here. Both have good internet banking facilities so either would be a good choice for someone who couldn't visit the branch regularly in my opinion.
