Depends on the factory's policy buy usually $20K - $30K and above before you can expect L/C terms.

If the product is manufactured with a long lead time, then you can expect 30%/70% terms.

Spending several thousand dollars (not sure how to quantify 'several'?) then you really can't expect to dictate terms. I'd personally T/T that amount without questions.

I really don't want to take much risk. How much do you usually pay for someone in China to verify the supplier for you? Do you know some one in China to do it? Really appreciate it.

Being in business is a risk. Dealing overseas with someone at the end of an email is an even bigger risk. It's what you do to minimise the risk that matters.

You are right. I know even local chinese are cheated by their fellow country (i witnessed it). I've been to China and understand immense the country is and how extremely hard it is for the Chinese to do make a living in China. This country is overpopulated-everyone struggles to make a living, what makes them tend to cheat people.

Well out of all the ones you mentioned I only use Alibaba and I have found 100's of genuine suppliers and not a single scam. I would imaging you are looking for the same old stuff, laptops, ipones, ipods, mobiles, lacoste t-shirts etc?
