Default Bank Details

Hi,

I was wondering if you could advise? I am selling a large, expensive joblot through a classified site.
A potential buyer has contacted me and wants to deal thru bank transfer ... I am reluctant to give out my bank details to a stranger. Any advice / pitfalls? and could you advise a safer method of receiving payment NB they don't have a PayPal account?

Much obliged

In my opinion bank transfer is safer than PayPal.

On the other hand, we have seen on TV what a person can do with information found in your trash (name, address, bank account) - a little bit scary.

If they're in Ireland, take could pickup goods from you.

There's also Escrow.com - but this means he will have to send money to a US bank, in dollars - you'll lose time and some money on currency exchange. I'm sure there are local Escrow services in the UK as well.

I have used transfer on many many occasions and never had a problem... that does not mean there are no pitfalls.... I have found it the second best way to do business... the first being.... cash is king

Are you talking about the show The Real Hustle?

Can' t remember on which show I saw it but the idea was very simple - what a person can do with information found in your bin. Results were amazing

it is true.... the more info you give them the more doors it can open... just look at some of the darker sites that sell credit cards... credit card info.... card duplicators.... card writers and blanks... add that to the places you can buy personal information.... and the search results you can acquire if you know where to look for personal details and data..... not surprised I'm paranoid... that reminds me.... I have a card writer and some blanks somewhere... mmmmmm

I've burned up two shredders over the years, working on the third.

Shred everything with any info beyond name and address. Insurance, credit card, etc. solicitations all get shredded.

Why are you worried about giving bank info out? Have you ever written a cheque? this shows the same info!

Dont give thm you personal info, though!

How very true.

How many checks have you ever written?

Figure each was handled by two people before it got to the bank.

That's how many people who have already seen your bank info.

And if you pay bills from your bank account, you enter it there, as well.

If you account is like mine, there is little for them to get, anyhow.
