Hi,

I've been asked to look into getting some crates made to ship our goods to USA. Our plan is to eventually send them by sea.

A colleague has suggested that in the USA they are particular with the type of wood that gets used. I just wondered if this was true or just a rumour?

Does anyone know of any links on the internet that may help if it is true?

Thanks

Speak to USA customs, no doubt they will have a data sheet for requirements.

You should see the state some the crates I have received from China in the past by boat! Obviously UK customs don't give a sh**. However nearly every crate has been opened by customs. Nosey gits!

Many thanks. I went to the website:

http://www.customs.gov/xp/cgov/toolbox/questions/

and found my answers. Yep, it does have to be heat treated and stamped in accordance with IPPC (whoever they are) standards

Yes, you must provide fumigation certificate for any wooden packing, if you ship to USA.

It is not a rumour, it is a law in US.
