Default Shipment - Clearance Delay?

Had my hopes up for receiving a stock order today, but upon tracking it's status, it says:

Hong Kong - Hong Kong East Midlands - UK Clearance delay as of: September 08, 2008 08:21

It has landed at Heathrow, is this a sign of goods being held by customs? has anyone experienced "clearance delay" before?

Regards,
Steve

is this possibly due to customs?

As the status implies it is awaiting clearance by Customs. This can take a minute or a day on average. Any longer and there could be issues. After a couple of days they should update their system so the courier will have limited information why it is delayed.

Don't start panicing for another couple of days.

it can be many things. Sat in line waiting to clear or something more

The courier (DHL by any chance) could need your VAT, or TURN number before they can clear it, or possibly, if they already have those, if its a lot they may want payment or a promise to pay in writing.

If its counterfeit or fakes it could be being nabbed by customs.

As long as your goods aren't dodgy don't worry a quick call to the carrier will let you know the score.

just noticed from the weblink it is DHL.

how much is the invoiced value of the shipment?

if its more than £600 and they don't have your TURN/VAT details they can't clear it, you need to phone them and give them the info.

I'm not VAT registered!

Then you need a pseudo turn. Only for shipments with value £600+.

Like DM says, if the invoiced value of the shipment is more than £600 then you will need a pseudo TURN to get it through customs.

there is a good place to start.

If your not VAT registered you will need to apply for a Psuedo TURN number. Ring Customs with your Airway bill number and you can apply for one over the phone, then ring DHL as you are probably going to get a letter in the next day or so.
