Default Shipping Large Orders

how is a large order shipped. nationally and internationally?
something like 100+ phones

my supplier says that they can ship a max of 20 units out per day through each shipping company. and for an order of 100 they would take 2 days, using 3 shipping comapnies. this is internationally

they can use a freight forwarder within the US

is this common practice?

I suppose it depends really on their supply line. If they have the products in stock and at their warehouse ready to dispatch, it would seem quite strange that they stagger the shipments like you are suggesting. If however their supply chain is that they only get a few shipments each day, that might be why they limit it.

As far as common practice, I don't believe it is. It seems a rather strange arrangement and is worthy of some further questioning.

thanks anthony.

like i said, they will use a freight forwarder in the US, 10% deposit and the rest after inspection. but not internationally, something about it being out of their jurisdiction out of the country.

I think the idea behind the staggered shipping is something to do with the import duty we've had a couple of companies trying to sell to us from the USA but we tell them after the import duty & VAT we couldn't make any profits.

So they suggested staggering the shipments and declaring a lower value no good in my opinion because your not only braking the law if any of the parcels go missing then you've all in one lost your profit.

I was going to come on to this pending a reply from the OP. You make some excellent points, Paul.

Staggering shipments isn't illegal, under declaring and avoiding VAT/Tax is illegal. I'm not sure you can really afford to bring in 20 phones and make a decent margin, unless you have a niche with plenty of margin to spare.

Their payment terms have nothing to do with the jurisdiction/law. Sounds very suspicious. Ask them to explain.

The question you should be asking is why that is.

There is a reason and you should find out before committing to any form of order.

If they said they could only send out 20 phones a day that would be strange but there could have been a rationale explanation. The fact they say per shipping company means they are most likely doing it to stop you getting import duty and VAT which like others have said is illegal...
