Hi

Welcome to the forum.

The best thing I have found to save time in the post office is to ask the person behind the counter nicely if they will give you a bundle of the different stationary you may need, it will help if you can give them the names of the different forms.

I do this once a month or so, and you can see the relief on the faces of the casher when you hand over the completed forms.

Will they give you a bunch of recorded forms then? I didnt know if they were numbered or something. The problem with my village PO is that it is small and often crowded and if I have like 15 things I want to send recorded I either have to hold up the queue (only one teller) for 10 minutes or scribble them out on the copier in the middle of the room while people try to get past me. Bit of a nightmare.

If I could get a load of those red recorded forms and fill them out with a cup of coffee before I went, it would be 100 times better.

I think I will use a £10 rule. Anything under goes POP, over goes recorded.

How many forms do you ask for at a time?

My Post Office give me the recorded slips in their sealed packets, you just have to remember not to use the top one in the pack because it is display only.

I've got the following stationery: -

Recorded Delivery slips
Special Delivery slips
International signed for slips
Airsure slips
Whole pad of certificate of postings
Roll of customs labels

As soon as I get low on something I ask for more. These days they ask me whether I am ok for stationery. Also it makes it quicker if you know the weights because you can say 4 at this weight and they print the labels in one go, and 2 at this weight, etc.

What I need to get is some decent scales for weighing things. Can anyone recommend any?

There are a few guys selling scales on Ebay but they tend to be expensive. I have looked in Argos and you can get really good digital kitchen scales for about £20. Fine up to about 2-3kg. I would think they would be just as accurate as 'postage' scales.

As with anything in business though, I need to justify it before I buy some. Although, I am making consistant profits now, which is nice.

By the way Karen, you say they give you a pad of cert of postings. How does this work? Do you just put on the postcode and then they stamp each one at the PO?

You just write the name, the first line of the address and the postcode (one per line). You can get 10 names & addresses on one Certificate. They then just write the total number of items sent, initial it and date stamp it.
