Hello,

Im looking into gettng a 20ft container of wholesale stock for re-sale from U.S.

I have no idea how to go about this. Is there a company who can handle the shipping, import, taxes logistics etc for a one off container?

Any idea on what sorts of costs i will be looking at?

What happens with the container when its dropped off? do i have to empty it there and then? do i keep it for a week?

If any one has any info on this i would greatly appreciate it.

Hi Tom,

You want to look for a Shipping Agent, if you look in your Yellow Pages or do an internet search you should find quite a few. Its best to ring around to get the best price as they can very quite a bit. Ask for a door to door service as this should include all there charges including their fees for obtaining necessary custom charges and certain Harbour taxes. (This won't include VAT charges or customs charges). The biggest shipping companies that I've dealt with are Panal Pina & NYK logistics, but also try some of the smaller shipping agents they can be very c omparative sometimes.

Normally you get about 3 hours free to unload the container, but they will drop the container off with you and you can specify the length of time you require it, but there would be an extra charge for this.

Last time I was getting quotes for a 20ft container from the US it was somewhere in the region of £1.5K - £2K, but it might of changed since then.
