Default Shipping Containers ......

Right, first of all, i hope thisis in the right section of the forum.

Here are a few question about shipping containers i have that hopefully someone can clear up!

So, if i order some products, and i was to order a full shipping container of them.
What is the normal process ?
Will the container be deliverd to my adress / warehouse ? or would i be responsible for collecting it from the docks ? iIf i have to collect it from the docks, do i have to unload it there and then or do i take the container away ?
Also when does the suppliers responsibility end with regards to the shipping container ?

thanks
Jonny

You can have it delivered to you. They may even "drop the trailier", so you do not have to unload it immediately. But you may be subject to a demurrage charge for tying up their equipment. Usually a customs broker can arrange the details for you.

You'll find most containerized goods are palletized, so you wi;; probably want to have a forklift and a loading dock available.

I have looked into this and it seems to me a very complicated business so it's best to use a third party to import the goods for you.

If you did decide to go it alone and arrange the shipping yourself, no they won't deliver they will give you a set timeframe for you to get the container unloaded. I think it may be upto 5 days.

So what many businesses do is lease a warehouse close to the docks so they can unload the container very quickly and take the goods to this warehouse and then at their leisure to send to their main warehouse.

What is a freight forwarder? Is that like a broker? Please don't laugh, new to business and haven't had to order a container yet but might be soon.

Find a forwarder, give them the shipping documents, they will arrange all the things for you.
