they couldn't produce more. 1.8 million a month that they are doing is the fastest production of consoles ever.

^ yes they have been making 1.8 mill units a month,. for the last 4 months easy,..

4mts * 1.8mill = 7.2mill

stats show they sold 13.7mill to date, theirs no way they sold 7mill in the last 4 months,

some ones stocking them up somewhere,

i know Cpw have about 350 units, but thats for their phone offers,

IIRC, i dont think its nintendo's speed of production that is the issue. I remember reading somewhere awhile ago that IBM doesnt have the ability to increase its CPU production for these consoles any further...

When you manufacture a product, you just don't make units to sell to retail shops. They can go to all kinds of companies (not resellers), promotions and marketing companies can take millions (worldwide) and you also have stock to deal with warranty returns throughout the world etc.

At the end of the day Nintendo make them and sell them to whoever buys them. I get mine through a promotions/marketing company who handle competitions/freebies for Major household brands.

I'm happy, just received 20 and have another 100 on the way all ready to be put on ebay 1 week before Christmas at 99p start

Greedyboy, your obviously confident there wont suddenly be a large increase in stock levels prior to christmas then? The amount of consoles listed on ebay each day has risen by around 1 thousand (slightly more in fact) since this time last week. having said that prices are still stable, if not still rising a bit, meaning demand is incredibly high.

I would like to throw something into the mix.

Would we say that the Nintendo Wii is more in demand than say the PS3 this Christmas? If so, what sort of demand ratio do you think it is? Does the demand contribute to a lack of product in the market or because it is the better selling console?

Confident no but I always weigh supply/demand into the equation!

I have been monitoring wii's with some paid for ebay stat software and despite a clear indication availability is increasing the average selling price is also increasing. This indicates the demand is also increasing as it is nearing Christmas.

There are also other ways of increasing the final sale price on just a basic sports pack, feedback/reputation/powerseller is a major one.

However when all said and done, they will sell and if I get only £200+ for them then that's life. It's just a bit of fun for Christmas and my life does not depend on it. Just a Christmas bonus.

chameleon, if Nintendo pull that stunt now, where will their credibility be with consumers, especially parents, all around the world?

Do you think the statutory consumer protection agencies around the world will sit on their hands and hum them a nice tune when it becomes clear what they have done?

Why would an international company with a good trading record wish to damage its own reputation that way, potentially terminally? And at the same time why would they want to miss out on the profit opportunity offered by an obviously very popular release?

Everything points to them being far more likely to gain from feeding the frenzy, not starving it. Which in turn points to supply bottlenecks, shortfalls in sales projections leading to inadequate tooling provision, or similar factors, not marketing strategy, being the root cause of the shortages.

Sorry this is common practice.

You waited 18 months for a brand new M3 a few years ago. 6 months later you could walk into a showroom with 40K and drive out the same day.
