You probably mis read, it would have said, 8GB and 16GB, this refers to the memory capacity, the new model has the same memory as the old one, its just called iPhone 3G in reference to the new feature.

good info.

What G were the old ones operating at?

Also will this new model be coming in 8GB and 16GB or one or the other?

What kind of prices are they looking at?

The old version was operating at 2G, thats standard network frequencies, 2G was implement over 10 years ago. So, apple are behind.

The new iPhone is coming in 8GB and 16GB, the 8GB is available in the Black colour, the 16GB is available in White and Black.

As for prices, in America, AT&T have the exclusivity deal with Apple and the rates are around:

$199 for the 8GB
$299 for the 16GB

On top of that you have the monthly fee of around $70, for a minimum 2 year contract.

Ha-ha, we're on the same note here

Every single new piece of "fashion" electronics opens up new business opportunities.

Had an O2 account manager phone me today to sign one of my businesses up to the new iphone. We have 12 mobiles on a t-mobile tarriff which has just ended and I have been waiting for the 3g to come out.

He got my details from an email I had sent to them when it was announced. He told me that they were taking pre-orders now and I had better be quick as its first come, first served and they are bound to run out quick. Although its the cheesiest sales tactic in the book, I sorta wondered if he might be right.
Trouble is I am going on holiday for a week and I don't want to miss out when I get back.

It's hard to not give in. But on this occasion i would. The old iphone was one of the hottest business phones of the year. The 3G one should be even better. Just make sure your guaranteed delivery or you could be without phones for a while.

o2 online have already sold out from online reservations within a few hours. More stock is expected soon but as a result the pay as you go version is now delayed to nearer November.

o2 and Carphone will have limited stock for the launch on Friday but expetc them to be all sold out within a couple of hours.

It's been well known that production is very limited on the 3g version. I personally believe stock will be scarce for at lest 1 - 2 months.
