What will be big this Xmas
Hi I was just thinking about predictions for what will be a big seller this Xmas. Every year there are things that are completely sold out e.g. Nintendo Wii last year. I know Hamleys the toy store have predicted a tellytubbies toy, a leather rubiks cube and a monoply world game and a couple of other things. I was wondering if any one had any ideas? Maybe we could run a competition and see who was right??

I imagine that the Iphone will still be a massive seller; I wouldn't recommend you sell it though .
The Wii will still be a big seller - I can imagine them being rather hard to come by again....
People underestimated its popularity last year; very few people realised that they were going to be rarer than hens teeth.
If someone were to have bought a hundred Wiis for £17,000, they could have easily off-loaded the lot for around £50,000...
I regret not buying a few now .

wii will be great, but watch out for price drop; since in E3, Sony, Nintendo, and microsoft announced either new model of their console or price drop in the coming season.

With the morons currently out in the bars at moment kevlar vests probably be popular.
Seriously, the Wii is going to be massive - dont think they will lower the price of that though. Sony are not lowering prices, they are releasing a new PS3 but at the current prices and they have said there will be no lowering of prices (that was announced at E3)
Microsoft the same although PLAY just dropped £30 from the Premium Xbox but Microsoft said this is nothing to do with them and there are no plans to lower prices.
Wii will be biggest seller, Wii Fit - Nintendo announced that there will be plenty in the UK and chains are already receiving their first stock in the run up to Xmas so no need for people to pay over the RRP, Europe (well here anyway) has been swamped with them every store over here now has a full stock and even Indies have been allowed to get more. Accessories may be another thing, dont know what the situation is like for controllers etc.
DSLite will probably go well again.
The PS3 80GB may be a big seller if there is a shortage - out AUg 27th

As you said, first of all, Sony announced the revival of 80Gb model at 399USD, which means the current stock of 40 GB must drop its price.
Secondly, microsoft also announced a new 20gb model, and, at the same time announced, the old model of 360 will drop its price by 50USD.
Thirdly, although I am not sure about nintendo strategy, I have not yet read its press conference detail yet, I would assume a price drop in the fall as its competitors is launching new models and price drop for the old models.
Forthly, if Nintendo said there were plenty of stocks for wii fit, I would assume two things: relatively, wii-console should be plenty too; excess supplies of wii and wii-fit will lead to either price drop or discount.
And, one more thing to consider, its CHRISTMAS!, people would expect discount, and sale. It would be nice if you know how much discount do the stores put on the consoles .

Maybe for Canada but certainly not Europe, any price drops for the 40gb will be down to the individual retailers to decide Sony have already said the 80gb will have a rrp of £299 / €399 and no price drop for the 40gb as there are not many left and they are not producing anymore.
Microsoft said same its up to the retailers if they want to lower the price.
Nintendo will not reduce the Wii Fit, why should they it will sell at the current rrp.
With Xmas you will see savings for bundles, add a game or two or an extra controller. Just look at previous years with consoles.
I am only speaking about Europe here though have no idea what they are doing across the atlantic. As for the extra wii consoles being available Nintendo didnt mention that which is probably worrying but have to wait and see. I know that indies in the UK are having trouble getting Wii Fits but that may change as more become available.
