Hi Mates,

I'm looking into purchasing Kingston SD memory cards from Asia. I have already heard that there are so many fake memories from Sony (memory stick) to Sandisk (SD, CF, ...) but the more I googled for Fake Kingston SD cards the less I found.

Does anyone know if there are fake Kingston SD cards in the market, and if yes, how would you differentiate a fake Kingston memory from an authentic one?

Probably the best and easiest way is just via the price they are sold at..

Somebody should be able to advise what sort of price you should be paying for authentic stocks..

it is not that easy to tell fake and authentic memory cards apart. The Sony Memory Sticks were quite easy to tell after a while, but it is a lot harder to tell apart the rest.

If you specify which type of memory card you are talking about, then I could give you an average european wholesale price. Maybe you can tell by the price then.

ok, I'm looking to purchase 40 pcs of Kingston SD 1GB standard (retail pack). A US distributor of electronics sells it @ US$24 per piece; however, I get anywhere from US$19-US$21 for this quantity for Taiwan and China claiming that their cards are also authentic.

I advised the US supplier that the prices overseas are almost US$5/unit cheaper and he told me that they have lower manufacturing costs in Asia giving me the impression that some of these memories are not made in Taiwan.

any idea that the overseas pricing is for fake memories or it could be authentic?

Well tbh, I would kind of think they would be fakes, even that those prices. I think you should stick with the US distributor.

To give you an idea: my local electronics distributor (one of the biggest in Germany) sells the 1GB SD Cards here in Germany for around 16 Euros with MOQ of 1, which is around $20,50. When buying larger quantities this can be even less.

So a price of $20-21 is possible. Nevertheless, you could also be offered fakes at this price.

I fully agree with canada, only deal with authorized distributors. I have seen many a times

the fake Sony Pro Duo memory cards. Have not seen a fake kingston sd card as yet.

Well, I guess there is always some new fake product turning up on the market every

other day.

You just have to look at ebay these days, it is full of fake memory sticks from Hong Kong and so on, and they destroy the prices.
