I was in the same boat as you so I opted for a ready-made shopping cart site such as Volusion or Monster Commerce. There are others as well, 1ShoppingCart, Yahoo Stores, and others.
You'll most likely have to pay a monthly fee, but I feel its worth it.

Contact a webhost and ask them if they use cpanel. Thats what my hosts use and its very easy to work with. Ask them if there cpanel has fantastico installed and if it has ecommerce software to configure through fantastico.
Check my link in my signature, thats zencart installed using one click.
Check the zen cart homepage and try the demo. Although it looks like setting a shop up is a hard task its actually quite easy. In zen cart for example adding a new product is as easy as writing this post.
Of course setting up[ and shop software for your needs i the hard part but most ecommerce software have forums and theres heaps of threads to answer your questions.
I configured my zencart and got it running sweet just by using there search feature on the forum and all the answers were there.
Theres more than just zencart but ive only ever used that so my example was based on that. Look about theres loads to choose from. Hope that helped you.

Hi Faz,
For the most part you can find plenty of easy to use, basic shopping carts that allow you to customize them toward your brand. As stated above, most web host also offer shopping cart solutions as well as merchant accounts to accompany processing the order.
Personally, I have over 10 websites that are either directly or indirectly geared toward ecommerce and I designed them on my own. The latest is listed below.

Just a question. When you get this new site.
1) How do you accept payments into your bank, is that part of the shopping cart?
2) How do you advertise your site?

1. You'll need an internet merchant account. Do a search on the forums for it and you will find several threads on the best ones.
2. Online - basic ways: Pay-per-Click, SEO, forum selling, ebay, craigslist, etc.
Offinline - flyers, newspaper inserts, radio, tv, billboards, etc.
