Default Business startup-Target markets??

Ok guys here is a question i have been mulling over and was hoping someone could help-I'm thinking of starting up a small business (sole trader) primarily trading online (Ebay/website etc..) but possibly branching out to other markets, for example parties and the such like. What i would like to know is if this is possible to trade in more than one place or would the authorities take offence,if not how would i go about recording sales at these parties (Is a good old carbon copy book good enough??) as sales from ebay/websites will be easier to record.

If your types of businesses differ substantualy then you are recommended that the business is run completely different, with different accounting. For instance if you sell MP3's online and also sell cars, you must account for both business seperate.

Depending on the amount of business you do you could run them under one banner for the time being. When the turnover is fairly substantial you can then 'break them up'.

You can use anything as a record of your sales/invoices, as long as you have a record. By the way eBay generated invoices are not accountable and therefore it is also recommended you use a basic invoicing/accounting package such as QuickBooks.

Both "parts" of the business would be selling the same items,so i guess i could count this as one entity yes?Would i still need to break them up if this is the case and is that a legal requirement???
Thanks for the tip about ebay invoices!!! would i have to enter these sales manually into my accounting package??
