Default Video Case Advertising

Around 25 years ago I provided some local video rental companies with around 200 - 500 cases for their vhs type movies each which had on it 4 ads from local companies in that area such as Pizza shops, Hair saloons, etc.. and I charged $495 per ad for 3 months.

I then changed the cases with new ads on the case. Some times I would put 400 cases with 200 of 4 specific ads and 200 of 4 other ones, thus increasing my revenue. I then started to branch to other shops in other areas of the city.

I left pages of coupons which were to be put in each case. So if you rented 3 movies you would get 3 pages of coupons. Each page had 12 coupons with some deal such as buy 1 large pizza with works and get 1 litre of pop free or something to that effect. I talked my advertisers into providing 2 or 3 differet type deals such as 10% off or 20% for orders over $25, etc.

This worked out quite well for me as I found one video store owner who was the 'king pin' of video store owners and had 7 major stores in my area.

My next business I got into while doing that was a doggy doo removal service .......seriously

Came from a poor background so at 13/14 had to make some cash, starting dealing in games machines etc, Megadrive/NeoGeo and others.

Used to use the yellow pages as a selling/buying tool, would advertise for broken machines and use the receipts from the working machines I purchased to take them back to Currys for a full refund, was making a 1500/week just on that, this was 20 years ago...

Also had a list of clients after certain games, so I'd purchase a machine with 10 games, resell it with 2/3 games and get money back then sell the other games at 100% profit

Dealing in machines was mucho fun back then.

All good fun

:-)

P.S. At 12 I started a pest control service killing wesp nests! with my brother who was 10!!!, we used to undercut rentokill, they charged 50 quid and we'll charge 10 quid, should have seen the looks on peoples faces when two kids turned up with spray guns LOL, was all good fun.

Talking My first $1000

I made my first $1000 dollars, If I recall its been such a long time ago by buying out video stores that were closing and reselling the inventory to other video stores. I think the first deal was for $21,500 and I made $7500.00 and should have made more. I was in my early twenties but have been buying, selling and hustling since I was 10. I got online in 1998 and launched Mod Edit: URL Removed and now we run several websites and sell to big retailers here in the USA as well.

Trust me its not easy when you start doing it. Many people failed because they didn't have these 2 qualities...

I left school at 15, left home about 3 months later.... after a couple of years or so of wandering I went back home almost penniless.... Sold back to my father the pocket watch he had given me as a family heirloom...[which he had kept for me]..... went out and convinced several working mens clubs [don't know if they exist any more] who did prizes with the bingo and raffles that I could supply them with all the prizes they would ever need, and got them to write me a letter of authority. Approached Rumbelow's [they don't exist any more] to deliver whatever I decided was appropriate and invoice me with 30 days payment with a good discount [now that was hard work] Talked to a few wholesalers and purchased smaller items with the cash I had and delivered them to the clubs.... being careful to stagger the days because I didnt have enough money to cover all on the same day.... First deliveries from the electrical supplier was a brand new telly.... second was a fridge.... etc etc etc..... first smaller items were continental quilts, lighters etc.... always made sure the clubs were full [as they used to be] before I made the delivery for the following giveaway.... always walked through the clubs... the long way..... so the users would get sight on me delivering... and it wasn't long before they were asking to buy the items.... especially the quilts...... took orders and deposits for 80 in one visit to one club.... not bad as I had to do everything on the bus.... 4 weeks later I gave my father the money he had given me.... but told HIM to keep the watch.... because I couldn't be trusted to keep it, if I ever got desperate again......... 6 months after that had a nice big wedge as scratch money, sold the business and moved on.... now let me see... 1K in the 60's..... mmmm ..... what would that be the equivalent to now???
Quickest 1k...... excluding cars..... in less than a day.... writing EPROM chips..... or was it EEPROM..... who cares when your counting the money... ?

I could go on to tell you about some of the failures too.... and the absolute disasters.... but you didn't ask about those
