Congratulations, Kevin. It's a bit broadly put, though. Are you suddenly in a position to bid against Branson for Northern Rock, or are we looking more corner shop with a bit of eBay on the side?

On a serious note, nobody in the world can answer that for you. All they can do is point out options and you'll have to take your pick from among them and whatever else you may find.

On a lighter note, you may well have started off one hell of a fun thread! Many thanks!

For ideas, one thing you could do is speak with your local newsagent. Ask which day the auctions are advertised in your regional newspaper. I do mean regional, the local is no good and the nationals won't help.

Go through the auctions looking for bankrupt and clearance stock. Contact the auctioneers and ask for the URL for their online catalogue.

Remember, you are looking for ideas. Go through each catalogue. You may have no interest at all in what the bankrupted or insolvent business was selling, but all sorts of associated stuff will be going in smaller lots and could well spark the idea which takes you into Sugar's league - in 47 years' time.

In fact, that's probably not too half baked an idea fro anybody looking for what they might buy and sell for profit.

You didn't say you were dead set on becoming a trader, although you are on such a forum.

But you also have a forum for business development. Maybe that is where your future lies. Becoming a consultant and a speaker has a lot less problems than opening that corner shop and having to deal with employees.

Beside the usual fireman and policeman, what did you want to do as a kid? How lod are you? What sort of education do you have?

Here in the US it's the service businesses that are growing. 10 years ago everyone cut their own grass, now every other yard has some small business tending it. And, if the "baby boomers" are beginning to retire in the US, they are in the UK and throughout Europe. They are going to be needing more and more things done for them.

Not just changing their Depends, but things like lawn care, home care, etc.

If you're undecided, let the money sit through the holidays, think about what you'd really like to do and talk to folks for ideas.

I've got a friend in his 50's who sold his very profitable business and now does lawn care. Says he never felt better.

Another does pool maintenance through the summer and paints lines on parking lots whenever. Also has a snowplow, but in this area there are only a couple days a year for that.

So, think it over.

And good luck.....
.

If your serious about business then have a look at Argos clearance.

first thing you have to ask yourself is what do you know about?

My first business was in music promotions and event management. In high school I was always the one that organised the end of year party, sorted out bands, food found art students to decorate the place, games for people to pay (and of course booze smuggling).

When in the sixth form we had a band in sixth form who everyone loved, so I put them on in a local small music venue with an underage liscence and charged a fiver a head. The place held about 400 people and I could have sold it out twice over. Promoting in school was free, telling mates, posters on notice boards. By the time the event came around it was the thing everyone in school had to go to. From there we did a few more events and fice years down the line we were promoting tours for the Beastie Boys, jungle brothers, David Holmes, Mad Professor and loads more.

I sold that business on for a lot of money, after putting £70 quid to get it started. Since then I have had several other businesses that I have started and sold. The point is that every single one of them was something I was really interested in, knew a lot about and could be really enthusiastic. The enthusiasm is important when you find yourself working a 90 hour week, which at some point if its your business is going to happen. Maybe its just money that you are enthusiastic enough about

Anyhow the point I am trying to make with all this waffle is that the first thing you must do is look to yourself, what do you love and have a lot of knowledge about, that is what you are likely to be succesful with.
