Wasn't meant as a snide remark at all greedyboy. My best mate and best man is a taxi driver and he is doing very well (drives a brand new JAG anyway), but it's not the sort of thing people start off doing as a career goal and is often a "fall back" position, as it was my for my friend who was forced into it when he and his wife split up and fell into debt.

I merely mentioned it for those reasons only. I feel sure that if many people saw what most good taxi drivers earn in cash, they would consider it themselves.

I know you well enough to know it wasn't a snide remark. We (or I) have come to low points in our life and you just have a moan, take it out on the mrs, dust yourself off and give it another crack!

The prospect of actually working at McDonalds or saying to myself 'oh I remember when I could afford this...' is enough to make sure I am cautious with my 50 quid I earn each week.

I'm not a business man and I doubt I soon will be but hopefully one day..... But in my opinion I'm still going to Uni because I do think in the business world whether you work for yourself of a company a degree can't be bad for you. I understand it is a grand waste of time for a business man for his business throughout the course, but I've no plans of dropping out of education any time soon. Even if it's not for the back-up I'd like to go to Uni for the experience anyway

I think it will be better if you get any knowledge on it before you start working on it.

A mix of both is important, in my opinion.

Experience normally comes with the getting stuck in and learning as you go on. Qualifications (to a certain extent) can give you the foundation for the rest of your knowledge and experience to build upon. A lot of people have succeeded without qualifications, they aren't always the route to success. If you have enough passion and drive, you can always achieve.
