Default Qualifications or Experience?

I am pretty sure we have a broad mix of people on here who have ample amounts of both but what would you say was the most important feature of an astute business person?

What will help you make it in this world of cut-throat finances and mind-boggling economics?

Zero qualifications. But I believe somethings you can't be taught.

Quick, sharp and dont be afraid to gamble - got my training in probably one of the most hardest professions - spent near on 18 years in the financial markets and learnt a hell of alot but still learning today.

Dont think there can be one thing that will help someone become a success or survive in the business world - some might not agree but luck will play an important part it certainly helped me out a couple of times. If had to pick one though its probably the gamble, there is no sure thing in business - that one product is not going to be guaranteed hit no matter what anyone says - look at the Wii, when that was in the pipeline some of the top finance houses thought it was a disaster, they gambled it would be and lost, Nintendo gambled and won.

I think that if your going to start your own business then its better to learn it by doing it. From doing various BTEC courses I can tell you now that they are going to teach you nothing.

However, if you intend to join a larger coporation then I suggest qualifications. In a lot of professions now, employers look straight at the qualifications section.

I've just done my A-levels and I had no heart in them at all. I think aslong as you've got the motivation and the drive you will suceed in business however if you want a top notch job in some massive company then I think you'll need about 47 degrees.

no doubt it depends what you want in life. My misses has two degrees and is a corporate finance lawyer for addleshaw goddard.

She earns massive money from it, more than me but has to live with corporate crap every day of her life.

Failed GCSE's then joined British Army - Best training in the World as long as you want to kill people Left Army , still no qualificvations (as my spelling shows).

But I have drive, the ability to work all hours, the ability to keep going when it seams like it will all go wrong.

A mix of both really, but most importantly you just have to be competant, as long as you can organise a piss up in a brewery you should be fine.
