Default why do you do what you do?

Heylo
just wanting to find out a bit about you although i have been reading around forums i only started to post today, im clueless, i hold my hands up i know nothing! so as far as me helping others i think that could be a bit of a way away, so please bare with me after reading a bit in the forums i had a few questions.

mainly i see alot of posts about electronics and designer clothes... why are so many people interested in selling these items? is there alot of profit to be made, from what i have read from here and there there isn't too much to be made? i couldnt see how smaller business owners can compete with tesco/asda/currys etc etc. but of course as it's something im not interested in i havent resarched that market at all. so why is it sucha big thing for people to want to get in? is that the fun part? the competition, keeping you on your toes?

just general questions...
What is it that you do? is it online? or 'bricks and mortar' ? is this your fulltime job? why do you do what you do? any big mistakes you have made? your best decision made?

it's always good to hear other peoples sucess stories

I sell branded electronics, mobile phones, a few laptops and computer accessories, and ipods etc. I do it kind of as a hobby, it gives me pleasure just to break even

I think many people get involved in clothing & electronics because they're one of the hottest product categories out there, especially on eBay - where most of TWF members sell their stuff. In my opinion - designer clothing market is totally un-friendly for newbies and small start-ups. Of course, unless you want to deal with fakes, which is a really bad idea.

From what I have seen - more than 99% of TWF members sell online and don't have a "bricks and mortar" shops.

I do sell online and Yes - I'm totally full-time in all this stuff

Why I do what I do? Because I'm Lovin' It! (sounds like something from McD...)

Low set up costs and minimal sunk costs (costs that you lose when setting up), people from all round the world can buy from you, it gives you freedom - if you feel like a lie in etc. Well that could just be for me.

I have bricks and mortar and online.

I do it because I like it and its what I know best - you can certainly start a business without knowing too much but I think it helps to have a little experience of it although that is not a golden rule.
