Hello,
For a while now I've been thinking of starting a small business, buying and selling goods, but as I am still only young, have only a small budget of around £1000.
I've been a spectator on some of these forums for a while now, and recognised that many of you are experts in your field. It is because of this I am asking you, not for help, but perhaps advice on a direction I could take, for example starting my own website, or starting on ebay? Any particular popular sector right now? Electronics? Clothing? Etc.
Any and all advice is more than welcome, and I would really appreciate it if you could take just five minutes to post a reply, of perhaps how you started out, or a way I could start out.

With thanks,
Hayden Cooke

First thing i say is you cant buy branded goods from china and ebay is a good place to start. Have a look around the forum Market Place their is a few different items you might like.

Agreed - ebay is a good place to start if you want to turn over stock. However, unless you uncover something special, you will struggle to compete.
There are sellers on ebay who have more than 100k of stock and put in 50k orders to their suppliers so they kinda get better discounts and they get powerseller discounts on fees too.
It is, however, still the best place to start and learn IMHO

If you are trying to start an online business then this the right time to start. Holiday at the doors and everyone is buying gifts from now. You will sell stuff this season more than what you will ever sell the whole year.

Ebay is a great place to start indeed.. try to write down every idea that comes up to you mind, any product that you think off.. go to ebay and search for listings to see if it really sells..

Stay away from branded electo cause the profit is very little and there is even wholesalers on ebay that you can't compete with.

There are a lot of sellers on this forum that sell clothing, sunglasses, video games , game consoles, etc at great prices.. Try contacting them and they will supply you with some stuff.

Good luck

Search as niche as you can... A lot of the time, niche products have a lot of profit in them, and its better to sell 3 or 4 items in a specific industry, rather than 100 items that are very vague.

I recommend staying away from a large chunk of the electronics industry... Anything that is common is useless in electronics (memory cards, video games / consoles), they are way too competitive.

£1k is a very good budget to begin with. Just remember to do your research before you part with any of it. Then research again
