Hi Guys and Gals
I am just being nosey really but just wondered what invoicing / accounting software you all use?
I am interested to see which is the most popular although im sure quickbooks and sage will come close to the top.
Also is there any free bits of software out there that can do the job?
I have had a good look but you can't beat good old recommendations.

MYOB is an Aussie product and spread to the US, Canada and the UK.

But I think they are history in the UK, or have been bought out and taken over. They also have a Mac version, which I believe helped them gain a foothold.

I like it, went through all the tests to be a reseller / trainer, but there was just no market in the US. The accountants and bookkeepers push QuickBooks and Peachtree (now one of the sage line). Sage has bought about all the rest, so it's almost QB or one sage product or another. MYOB in the US is under another "republisher" at the moment.

It's a shame. To me it beat the pants off QB, for the same or less money. Has a great "works in progress" module for small manufacturers and packagers. And much better sales history by items in stock. QB is basically an accounting program and their "inventory management" sucks. It's virtually non-existent.

quaystock, if you can get a demo of MYOB, I'd suggest giving it a run. It's a shame they never had the budget to promote it like QB is. In the US you can't go a week without seeing QB on TV and no one ever heard of MYOB.

I use Quickbooks and it hasn't let me down once. Been using it for 2 years or so now. Would recommend it.

A simple spreadsheet may do the job, it depends what you need it to do. That's what I started with.

As for which I prefer, I used Quickbooks for quite some time and SAGE before that, but recently moved over to KashFlow. I'd recommend them all, to be honest. It's just a case of having a go with each and seeing which you prefer.

Quickbooks by far I think. Its very easy to learn (just by Quickbooks for dummies) and its great software. Been using it for almost 4 yrs now, its great.

QuickBooks. Hate it every time I bring it up. But I got into a relationship with an accountant who pretty much demanded it. He's gone, but the QB is still around. One of the high dollar Manufacturer and Wholesaler which promised purchase orders on the box, but won't do as Greedyboy would say Didley Squat.

I've actually used it off and on since they first came out on a 5 1/4 floppy disc and the payroll was an entirely different program. Sold many, taught many people how to use it. But still hate it. Mainly I hate Intuit and their three years and out support, forcing you to buy a new version when the one you've had has been doing just fine, thank you.

I don't do payroll any more, and even when I did I did not use their service. Another ripoff. Not enough hours in the day to go over it all. But, for $ 400 or so, I'll just keep using my less than current version until I fall face down on the keyboard, dead.

Intuit has replaced Microsoft on my list of companies to dislike. They are at the tippy-top of the list.

I use Kashflow. It's internet based, which is handy for me as I need to let other people access it from other locations. My accountant has his own login too, which is handy.
