definately go with recorded delivery, you dont want any customers trying to get one up on you.

I print my own postage from the Royal mail webside. Looks slightly better than writing by hand (in my case anyway). Saves a lot of time too.

With regards to recorded delivery, I always give the option of recorded and automaticly send high value items recorded but if your sending a lot of smaller, cheaper items out, sending them all recorded wcan work out very expensive.

i.e. sending 100 DVDs (150gms) @ 90p (1st class) = £90
sending out 100 DVDs (150gms) @ £1.65 (recorded) = £165

Even if 5 go missing and you have to refund or replace £25 worth of stock it will still be cheaper to loose the stock than send each item out recorded.

Obviously this will depend on what you are selling & value of the goods etc. but worth thinking about.

Could you provide a link? Sounds handy rather than writing it out on jiffy bags which is what I do currently, it looks very unprofessional.

http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm

Just click on either "Persional Customers" or "Small-Medium Businesses"
Click on "Print your own postage"
Then just follow the on screen instructions.

You will need to register but it only takes a couple of seconds.

The lables you will need are simler to these ones;

I buy them from my local pound shop though.

Hope that hepls.

Hi,

Good luck with your business. If your looking to accept PayPal for the goods you sell on ebay then you'll only be covered against chargebacks if you send out by a service that is signed for and can be tracked online e.g Recorded or Special Delivery. As Justcraig stated it depends on the cost of the items you're selling if you can afford to write off the cost if a few parcels "get lost in the post".

Hope this helps

What business are you starting? Its difficult to offer any advice without knowing what type business you are starting.

If you are not sure then look at things your already intereted in, sell some things from around your house to give you a bit of start up capital. This will also give you an idea of what type of things sell. Also if your selling on ebay this will help build up your feedback as a seller.

Do you have funds? If not then getting funds should be your first prioraty, but while your saving, still trade on a small scale. This will build experience and again help build funds. Look at dropshipping, look at buying and selling on a small scale etc.

I wish you the very best of luck

Hi,

I'm currently in the process of setting something up and I wondered what people do about returns? I guess for a lot of us, when you're starting out you begin by working from home. Now, although I would offer good customer service etc. you will always get that one customer who's just a pain in the **** and won't go away - sometimes they think they deserve more then just a refund. Now to make your business look more professional you would want to put a return address or business address somewhere on your website. Now I'm not sure about some of you but I wouldn't really want to put my home address down. Can anyone advise on what to do in these situations? Also whatabout whois info as well?

You will need to put a return address and a contact number somewhere on your website if you want to trade. If you dont want your home address you could look at a PO Box addess and if you dont want your home phone number on there then you can look at getting an 0800/0871/0845 number (which you could divert to a mobile).

Alternatively you could rent a cheap office and work from there.
