Hi guys,

I am looking to separate my business from my personal banking but don't fancy using my current bank due to them not being so great. I have seen the a&l deal but don't deposit the required £1000 a month. Any ideas on cheap small business banks?

Thanks
Dave

My experience with the banks is that Barclays is your best bet for start ups (check their incentives package, heavily focused on startup businesses).

HSBC are not bad for online businesses, also offering google adwords advertising as an incentive.

As has been said Abbey do good internet banking deals, free (careful though, I seem to remember that certain types of transaction they will still charge on, so ask before you buy.)

I've heard good things about Lloyds TSB, but when I went in to a branch for information, they handed me an application form for more information. In my opinion if a bank isn't willing to tell you about their services up front, it isn't worth dealing with them.

Best of luck finding the right one.

There's already a thread on this somewhere. But i use Lloyds and wouldn't recommend them for business accounts.

Got 3 business accounts with A&L and never had any problems.

One of the accounts ocassionally doesn't have the £1,000 deposted into it, but it's only £5 a month if you don't reach the threshold.

The BIG clincher with these accounts is that they are free forever (if there is such a thing as forever). One of the accounts has about 4 or five cheques a day put into it and about 20 Direct Debits coming out a month. Staff salaries are also paid directly from it. None of these transactions cost a penny - and it's been that way since I opened it 7 years ago.

There are other banks with offers. but we're quite happy with what we have.

Lloyds TSB will give you 18 months free business banking. Abbey offer a free service too, I believe, although it depends on your requirements.

There are plenty of deals out there to be had at the moment, shop around and get some opinions from others before taking the plunge, you could be with them for a very long time.

Depends what your looking for. Everyones banking needs are different. Have a look on money supermarket under Business Bank Accounts. It will give you a brief overview for what each bank offers, then make an appointment to see a business advisor.

Some good stuff coming up here. I didn't realise it was only a fiver a month for A&L if you don't pass the minimum deposit as I couldn't find it anywhere on the site. Also the moneysupermarket idea sounds good I'll give it a try shortly.

Thanks
