NO! (Unless you have a fulltime mechanic you want to keep busy)

Too much agro. The most work I would do is put a MOT on it and any related stuff. No point having money sitting in a car that is on a ramp when it could spent that time parked up or in autotrader.

Ok. so you buy cars that already have mot and tax which you could just put straight up for sale after a clean and polish?

In an ideal world. MOT is a must. I would never touch a car without an MOT unless I knew the history personally or was a fleet or finance car from an auction.

well thanks for your all guidance, very interesting!

ive always bought cars for next to nothing which needed work doing to it but what i couldn't do myself went to the garage and then got stung with an excessive garage bill. my profits were hit and miss and my turnover from buying to selling was about a month. very slow!!!!

however this threads given me a whole new concept of how i buy cars in future....

as I said buying non runners is waste of time and a false economy unless you have a full time mechanic. As you are now aware, if you had bought a car near ready for retail you cold have possibly turned over 2 or 3 cars in that time

it's a learning process

check out british car auctions for a local auction centre i have been to approx 5 now just dipping my toe in the water to test it out

be warned dont get too carried away in auction and examine the cars carefully - sometimes stone chips appear under the wipers

There is an auction for police siezed cars in newport for anyone who lives down that way (also general car and commercial on different days), meant to be pretty reasonable, never been personally as I'm miles away but for obvious reasons you do need to be careful what you are buying, they do allow bidding online but I wouldn't recommend it (unless you've already viewed the cars personally), though they do get some nice looking cars in at times.
