Default profits made on ps3 goods! It does not add up.[eBay]

Hi guys & girls.
Assalaamu-aleikum

In this topic, i will be focusing on the Ps3 & ask qstn's on how profits are made - which i cannot seem to fathom out. I am very new to the world of trade & maybe somebody (saajan) could help me out a little. This is my 1'st post.

I see that ps3's (60gb Jap version - excl game), are selling @ around £350 - £390 wholesale price.

I would like to know, how do eBayers make any profit. On eBay, the ps3's that i have specified, are selling @ around £390 - £450. Now...if somebody is intending to buy these goods @ wholesale price -£340 - £390+VAT, then you have made a loss already if intending to list them on eBay!

For example; You buy a ps3 to sell on - cost: £340-£390+VAT, then you have to pay for the shipping fee's (roughly £10-£25), then, you have to worry about import taxes if purchasing from abroad - & finally, when you have listed it on eBay, there is an obvious final value fee cost; which will roughly be around £30 - £45.

When the costs are added up, & your item has sold on eBay, the seller has lost around £40 - £100 depending on import tax & VAT

I'm rather confused on how people are making any profit? Even if there was no import tax & Vat added on to the goods bought, you are still losing money.

Let's just say that you paid no VAT or delivery charge for your ps3 goods.... eBay will still bill you around £30-£45 - & if you are buying these machines @ the price stated, & they are selling @ around £420, then you are just about braking even, or making a small loss!! THIS IS ONLY IF THERE WAS NO VAT OR SHIPPING COSTS. More of a loss, if these are included.

Can somebody please explain how it is done?
Thank you.

Obviously that's not the price people are getting them for wholesale.

Well a friend of mine sometimes buys PS3s off me sells them on eBay (his username on the forum is "moneybanks14")

I think your a bit late in selling the PS3 as the UK release date is tomorrow. Before, people were really rushing to buy the PS3 and eBay was flooded with them.

£335 - £350 is the wholesale price you'll expect to find as you already mentioned. But when PS3s were selling well, they reached around £420 - £480 on eBay. With that price you will be some making profit.

If you had stepped into the world of trading a bit earlier then I would suppose you would have made some sales with the PS3s.

Hope this helps.

OK, time for some maths...

If you want to buy a PS3 off us it will be £340 shipped. So we will work on that price and if you want to say we don't get charged VAT & Import Duties then that's fine.

So you get your PS3 and list it on eBay for £420 + £20 Shipping (to be competitive).

The insertion fee would be £2.00 and then we want to add the gallery feature so that's another 15p.

Your in luck! someone just brought your PS3, so you have sold it and there's a final value fee of £14.25. Giving eBay fees a total of £16.40.

They paid by Paypal so lets work out those fees 3.4%; that's £15.16 to Paypal.

As stated above you charged £20 shipping so lets go to the post office and say it cost £20 exactly to package it and send special delivery.

With all these fees took into consideration you just made £48.44 Profit.

I think you went wrong with the eBay fees, they might be steep but there not that high yet.

These prices are worked out for people selling on eBay UK. I also don't think shipping would be that much.

It is possible for you to get a ps3 for £335 delivery included, its not unreasonable to expect £395 for it that is £60 easy profit espeacialy if you drop sihp it from your supplyer after you have sold it.

Alternatively buy about 15 - 20 units in one go then sell them for £410 because the stock is in the uk you will find it alot easyer to sell. You also get it cheaper per unit, economies of scale and all that.

I find its best to avoid ebay its a rip of and very limiting as well as verry competative.

Try find a classified site which will allow sales of ps3's you will get loads of interest, its down to your own sales ability to turn that into revenue.

The reason PS3 prices are where they are £340 area is because of the shipping to send from overseas.

I can tell you the prices keeps going down if you can order above 10 units.

Hello saajan my friend.

But let's suppose that it was around 4 months till ps3 release date & they are being sold on eBay; the tax, vat & import tax would still add up to a loss?

I'm just giving you an example, in general, of how profits are made - regardless of the item being a ps3.

Also, On one hand #2 is saying this isn't the wh.sale price & #3 is saying it is!

#5 you say it's possible to buy @ £335 - deliv included. Then what about vat & final value fee? vat would be around £60 & final value fee on eBay is around £35

'andy' you register as a seller first! Some of us pay the fees and its unfair to sell without doing so. I would reccomend not buying from him if thats the way he chooses to market his sales. There will also be somthing illegal involved in this if that includes VAT & Import Duties.
