Hi Jeaneeni,

Thx for your comments. I'm not sure how to get in touch without exposing each other's email in public, but I'd like to get in touch with you. Perhaps you could send me a message through the "contact us" page in our website, and have our customer service staff forward your message directly to me.

And jezz, thx too. We are also currently working on testimonials section and gathering customer references to help you validate our business. Should be up soonest.

James

I am pleased to say that James Lam looked up my sample requests at his company's office and emailed directly from that, issuing me a refund for the $70 sample service fee. The company has now changed the way that they charge for samples and he has sent me lengthy emails explaining the reasons behind the procedure.

He has also emailed me three separate company I.D. (although I do not know about these and I could research them!). However, I am going to purchase products from the company next week (sorry for those of you most probably into electronics it will not be) but I will let you know how it goes.

Janine.

Good to hear Janine
I'd sell Ice to Eskimos if I could get them interested.
I don't think there is much money in Electronics unless you own a mainstream store.
(no good for eBayers)

The fact that James is here defending his company is a great sign.
I don't believe he would bother if it was a dodgey company.
(He'd be very busy anyhow)

As for a testimonial section on smallvolume.com, Does anybody ever believe this stuff?
I think if you try too hard to convince people your site is legit it could have the opposite effect.

It would be great if BBB was a world wide organisation, But perhaps there is some sort of trust seal etc. that would be suitable?

A customer forum would be great, All companies have complaints and it's great to see how these are handled.
(not trying to tell you how to run your site though )
It is a shopping site after all.

I was wondering what your company name is? smallvolume.com?

Anyhow I'm now convinced enough to place my first order. I just have to decide on which products. This won't be for few weeks, But when I do I'll post back here.

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,

Thanks for the reply....I'm glad that some-one else is going to buy products from small volume. I really searched for many days on the net and did not get any feed back until here at last. I'm pleased that I started this to get the emails from James, as like you said that does help to give more confidence to go ahead - as I am a newbie and very cautious after reading lots of stories about scammers!

I'm starting up a business as a property-stylist/ house doctor and therefore I want any products based on interiors. I am in the setting up stage and I have not as yet got a website, but a 20ft shipping container ready for goods (furniture mainly). I have not sold on ebay and that would be a secondary thing for me, as I would hope to be busy with my day to day customers and sell to them primarily.

Good luck...with your ice cubes!

Janine.

Thanks Janine,

I'm also a newbie and don't have much capital.
I was looking at importing some electric scooters,
(not for me of course, I wouldn't be seen dead on one )

I could have put at least 100% markup on these, That's what they are selling for on eBay.
Unfortunately the laws here have just changed though
You used to be able to ride them on the roads with no license or rego.

So... I'm thinking Ice won't work so... maybe Chainsaws?

Good luck with your ventures Janine!
If your looking at a DIY website take a look at Joomla!
It's free and you can get a professional looking site up and running fairly easily.
Plenty of templates you can buy, big open source community for support etc.
(Just a thought)

Hi Jeremy,

Thanks for that...although with setting up the business etc and not being knowledgeable of PC besides the basics I may have to pay some-one as to be time effective...as I want a site using flash....I think!

Re the scooter's...it's typical that when you decide on what you want to sell things happen to stop it or suddenly there are a load for sell!

From what I can see the problem with buying products from china etc is that obviously so many large companies import huge amounts and therefore they can sell them much cheaper; as once you add on the shipping costs etc most are not feasible as you can buy them here for the same price or less - unless you get a container full! Then you need the money and storage.

I'm doing this as I need ready stock to hand for staging interiors and I'm trying this out. It's only feasible if I can collect the goods from the shipping port 90mins away from me...for a reasonable price or buy loads....but to start I'm going to buy an amount that can (hopefully?!) fit into mine + my partner's car (I can take out the back seats of mine!)

Anyhow...I plan to go onwards and upwards...I'll let you know how it goes.

Re chainsaws......keep looking....

Janine.

Hi,

I have finally placed an order with smallvolume.com for just over $2000 including shipping. This includes products for my property-stylist business and watches for my Dad to sell at a car boot sale!

I'll have to hire a van to collect the goods from the port 90mins away from me...should be interesting, as never collected form a port before!

I'll keep you all posted.
Janine.
