Yea i see, just that im kind of unsure as to what items i would need to find to purchase other than branded products which seem to be everywhere.

And is my OEM suspicion correct by any chance?

If that is the case then why do you want to start a business? You need at least some idea of your product!

Yes and no. OEM is a general term which is now used to disguise fake items unfortunately, or make them sound more legitimate. You have to take into account the context in which it is used. For example there is no such thing as an OEM iPod, OEM Lacoste Shirt etc.

An example of an OEM product would be to approach Ford, do a deal whereby they manufacture a Focus for you with your logo on it (no reference to Ford whatsoever). To the outside world this is you own product but Ford do all the work! Saves you millions on development, manufacturing costs and you get your product to market quickly. This is entirely an example only!

On a more relaistic scale, you may find a small cushion maker in a back street in London. You do a deal whereby they manufacture their stock/standard cushions and put your own label on it. Again to the outside world they are your own cushions and ready to sell under your brand.

Then you have ODM (Own Design Manufacture). Without going to far into it, basically the same princible but with your own styles, designs etc. For example you invented an MP3 player which has a built-in time machine.

You develop it to prototype and/or sample stage and then had the prcoess over to a third party manufacturer to produce on your behalf. Basically what a majority of larger brands will do such as Apple, Nike, Sony etc.

Finally, before you ask. No you can not deal directly with these manufacturers. Their deal is done directly with the brand. No third party manufacturer will jepodise their contracts worth millions or billions of US dollars to sell you 100 ipods out of the back door or arrange your own personal PD (Prdofuction Run) on a late night when everyone has gone home (most operate 24 hours anyway!).

Was once, it is now July and my crown is about to be passed on. If I ever gain it back maybe I will rent it out on a daily basis?
