Default Registered Businesses

Hi everyone,

New to this so looking for a bit of advice. Have been ripped off in the past so am more cautious now. Have been in contact with a supplier and asked for some company details...they have said that as they are a internet seller they do not need a business registration number. Is this right or am I being made a mug of...again!? Any advice greatly appreciated....thanks.

Lyndsay

Online or offline, you still need to register as self-employed/ a business and pay all of the necessary taxes. They may not have a company registration number though, it all depends on their trading status.

Sounds to me like you've came across a supplier, who doesn't know the ropes. These are the kind of deals that often go wrong, look for a lengthy thread in this section from yesterday (my point exactly).

Further information on the topic can be found on the HMRC and Business Link websites. Definitely worth a look.

Thanks for your quick reply PT.
I forgot to add that the business in question is in China.
Is there any place i can look if i get the number to check to see if the company registration number is legit or not.
Thanks
