would you do this??
this is a general question about the company i am trying to start.
after talking to my lawyer over here yesterday and considering the price of accepting credit cards i decided i am most likely not going to go that route. the main reason is i mainly plan to sell to the usa, uk, and some of europe but in the last few years he explained to me that chargebacks have been increasingly on the rise in the us and uk but he did not know about europe. (he mainly deals with foreigners overhere who have business that internationaly trade)
then there is the cost of accepting the credit card. world pay is going to charge me around 3%. if i sell $10000 that is going to cost me $300. that is a lot.
so my main question is do most people trust bank transfers as it is the cheapest way to accept payment. my friend's father who exports all over asia only takes bank transfers as payment and he also advice me to do the same.
there is a lot of stuff on the web making it sound like most companies that only offer this payment are scams yet 3 huge wholesale companies i know of only take this as payment or based on your personal credit they will offer a line of credit with interest.(i am to new and small to do this)
so how do people on here mainly pay or accept payments? how do you deal with the fees of credit cards as it really cuts into profit?

Bank transfers/TT is the standard when making payments for international transactions. The problem is they are not entirely safe and some people have a problem using this method.

greedyboy do you know of any comapny or service that verifies your company or something like that. that way people know your legit and feel safer about paying with TT.

You need a new lawyer.
Credit cards are the safest way going. I've been selling online for nearly a decade and can count the "attempted" chargebacks on my fingers. I say attempted because most turn out to be they just don't recognize your company name when the bill comes.
Of course, it does matter who you are selling to, and where you are selling. If you are selling on eBay you must have PayPal.
A US merchant account will not do you any good outside North America. You will need WorldPay or MoneyBookers, etc. for the UK or EU.
You don't say what you are selling, or an average sale amount. That makes a huge difference when talking about TT instead of plastic.
Get a new lawyer.....

Trust me i dont need a new lawyer, he represents some of the biggest businesses over here. selling $20000 on a ticket can be very risky especially on plastic and can be very expensive for me.
paypal they are just a joke. they were a lot better before meg (ebay ceo) bought them now ebay owns the store and the processor. and i cannot use paypal over here without having a us bank account. they say NO to malaysia banks.
its a racist thing. and the funny thing is i am american not malaysian yet they still dont care.
hopefully at the end of march i will be able to open a bank over here.
i wish i could open one over the web without giving $5000 to open it. (its such bull***)

Can't say I particularly agree with that;...

I've got to agree with you JG!
It's the folks who are easy to talk to and tell you want you want to hear that you have to watch out for.
And PayPal sure beats T/T, any day.

However if you want to deal with companies internationally, especially Asia, T/T is the only option and accepted worldwide as the industry standard payment for international trade.
The funny thing is, I have never been scammed using a T/T (and I have send a hell of a lot of money using T/T) but I have been scammed/chargebacks via PayPal
