Default DVD Wholesaler

Hello,

I'm a new user so if I have missed a post similar to what I am about to ask I apologise,.. go easy on me

I'm looking for a legitimate DVD wholesaler based in the UK but keep finding links to websites that I am extrememly sceptical about. I wouldn't even want to give them my email address let alone my business!

I currently trade by selling on DVDs purchased on play.com and it's going well. Because of my suprise success I am nearing the magic £64K limit that requires me to become a pauper again by registering for V.A.T.

Many of you probably know that Play.com is based in Jersey and because of this any products I buy once registered have no V.A.T so I cannot claim back on them. Because of this trading becomes virtually pointless to me as I operate on a 20% profit margin, after VAT kicks in that will be reduced to 2.5%.

I'm desperate to find a wholesaler that is UK VAT registered to I can continue to expand rather than having to go back on benefits and look for a job *shudder*

Can anyone offer any tips on what to look out for, i.e. tell tale signs that a 'wholesaler' is a scam. Or, how/where to find a legitimate wholesaler.

Any help would be appreciated more than you could possibly imagine.

Best Regards
M

To be honest you will be hard pushed to find a legitimate UK DVD wholesaler and still remain competitive as the margins are virtually non existent unless you sell at full RRP (which is not viable).

Also it would seem, because you have been enjoying technically VAT free purchases the VAT element is a majority of your profit. As you quite rightly pointed out, VAT registration is going to further kill your margin.

Occasionally high street retailers have great deals on DVDs when shifting stock, you can get a lot of cheap DVDs and sell them for a profit on ebay.

But like Greedyboy said, the margins are incredibly small for selling at anything less than retail price.

If you're starting your own website for selling dvds from it might be a different story.
