Thinking of making a trip over to make some contacts and do some research. I would like to hear from anyone who has been over and would Shenzhen be the best area to visit for electronic goods.

You will need to make the contacts BEFORE you go. You can't just turn up at a factory door/gates.

There are markets, SEG is one buy not really ideal for longterm business, more of pick up a few of this and a few of that.

One major thing is no one speaks English outside of the larger hotels and sales departments of factories. It can be very hard work if you have never been there before.

In summary:

1) if you only want a few 100pcs of this and that, there is no need to go to China in all honestly. You can do these deals over the internet.

2) If you are a serious/bulk buyer or need to develop products then you should go to China but a guide/translator would be required.

3) If you just want to nose around and see what's on offer, go to a trade show.

I've been to the mainland but not to Shenzhen. I went for two days out of a 14 day trip to Hong Kong. I would advise paying Hong Kong a trip too, they have an electronics market were you can get genuine branded electronics well if its still there this was in 2005.

Like Greedy said you need to have contacts before you go !

and if you are looking for long term suppliers you best finding them on the net first then pay them a visit if you make good orders before you visit some will find you accomodation and / or take you out to wine and dine you, they are very welcoming.

Thanks to Greedyboy and UvProducts for the helpful comments, I'm aware that it's a good idea to organise a good agent/interpreter prior to arrival, really its the large manufacturing areas I'm keen to visit.

Its very key you have your staff or Agents visit the Factories before your visit and verify what they portray. As there is many companies out there, that claim to be something when there not! If you can be a little more specific with what products your looking to procure and budget, I would be more than happy to help.

regards.

I'm in China, and my location is not far from Shenzhen. Can you be more specific of what kind of products you are looking for, maybe I can help you.
