Hi its such a good site, I have had all good experiences, www.globalsourcesdirect.com, Its different from www.globalsources.com in that you can purchase small orders of everything for really good wholesale prices, I am bummed that they are going away But I will find another one

That is surprising!
I know Jennifer Leung, I'll send her an email to see if we can get some more information on why it is closing down. I only spoke with her a few weeks ago and she couldn't of known of the closure.

I just had confirmation back from my contact that it was a surprise internally but due to the economic situation, the parent company has decided to focus solely on Global Sources and the China Sourcing Fairs. The comment was also made that since GSD contributed a relatively small amount to the overall group it made sense to keep their attention on their core businesses.

NO surprise there. Although a good site, the pricing was a little on the heavy side and not many people knew about it. However I used them occasionally and as recent as a week ago (although my package has gone to the USA!).
Alibaba are trialling a similar thing.

Re: Globalsources direct Going out of business :(
Heres a quote from my contact Cynthia Fan,
Thank you for your email. The main reason for the closure is that despite our continuous growth, our contribution to the company was still marginal. Given the tough financial situation ahead, our company has decided to focus attention to our core businesses of Global Sources Online ( www.globalsources.com) and China Sourcing Fairs.
I know this news will affect some of our customers, and I do apologize for any inconvenience this might cause you.

Re: Globalsources direct Going out of business :(
That is bad news, global sources is a great website, and I thougtht their direct site was really good. I have found a few sites doing similar sourcing...
#1. www.tradingcompany.com They don't have a large selection, but specialize in smaller quantities direct from factories. Larger volume, you'll get better prices. I know the owner, he lives in Shanghai... You will find great prices there... ***I love the electric scooters... Check out those prices...
#2. www.b2x.com They have lots of products, but I'm not sure if they ship the UK yet...
If your looking for furniture or home decor, you can check my website out...
www.goodfactories.com
Anyway, I guess this opens the gates for more people like us to step in...
