Hello,

Does anyone have any information about building laptops and sourcing the parts etc at a good price doesn't have to be wholesale i.e refurbished or faulty ones.

Actually faulty laptops would be the best.

Many Thanks
Daniel

I can tell you from experience that this might not be as profitable as you think. If you can get hold of second hand laptops and just sell them on, that's great but spare parts for laptops are very expensive. Its not uncommon for a laptop part to cost more than you paid for the laptop.

When I was working for Compaq we always had a steady stream of users who had dropped, kicked, spilt water on their laptops and it was a very expensive thing to fix. Often I would wonder why the company even bothered fixing them when it would be almost as cheap to replace.

You can often pick up broken laptops and replace the parts from them but its not a steady stream of parts, and you could find yourself stuck.

I agree, although I've only read about it. But based on the fact that refurbishing would almost certainly have to include a new battery unit at around £70, I wouldn't bother with this idea.

Sorry to be negative but there are lots of "good" ideas for a business that are simply not viable.

I used to repair and refurbish satellite receivers. In the days of analogue I could easily fix 4 per hour at £15 profit each. With the advent of Digital I gave up because it would have cost me around £10,000 for new equipment and customers are unwilling to pay more than £50 for a repair. The parts cost can easily be more than that so....

Nowadays it's extremely difficult to make a living by repairing anything.

Hi,

Yes I might be able to help you out here, I have some contacts who can source cheap laptops, probably most are fault though and they will not the most uptodate models. Let me know if you're interested.
