Hi all,

I have been selling gadgety stuff online for a year or so now and have had relatively good success buying from wholesalers in China and selling on ebay. I have been dealing mainly with small cameras and MP3 players.

I would like to be able to sell IPODs, but obviously it is virtually impossible to find a wholesale source in the UK and anywhere else for that matter. I have looked at the price of IPODs in the states and they are not far of half the price they are here in the UK. My question for all the experts in here is, are IPODs and general electrical gadgets liable for import duty and/or tax if I were to buy in bulk (between 10 - 40 items) from a retailer in the states? Can anybody point me to any useful sources of information on this matter? Thanks very much for your help .

Best regards

Yes, you would have to pay 17.5% VAT and import duty could be up to 20%. C&E will tell you exactly how much.

Sometimes individual items sneak through but, if you buy in bulk, you are assured of a large bill.

So add 40% to the price, as a rough guide.

Airmail costs could be high. I just paid around $130 to get a DVD/CD-RW drive from the USA. Mind you, it arrived 12 hours later by Federal Express!
