Hi all,

I have extremely modest needs, I already run an unrelated lifestyle business which ticks over nicely, but I'm interested in a modest level of e-bay trading to make a net profit (i.e. after expenses but before income tax) of around £15 to £20 per day.

My plan is to purchase a bunch of electronic goods wholesale (say, maybe, 8Gb SD cards purchased at around £8.50 / unit and knocked out at £14 inc p&p) and sell just 4 or 5 units per day. I have website design and copy writing skills, so I could design a nice e-bay store.

The only thing is that I'd much rather see and feel any goods before purchase, then pay cash to someone and drive away with the goods in the boot of my car. Does anyone know of a good way to source a friendly wholesaler in the UK who might sell job lots of bankrupt portable stock which can be inspected over a cuppa and paid for in cash the old fashioned entrepreneurial way? I'm v new to this, and I'm not well off, I have a fear of sending 500 quid via PayPal to some faceless entity in Hong Kong to receive nowt or a jiffy bag full of useless items. Is this possible or am I being naive?

Please don't bite, any advice appreciated:-)

If you pay by paypal you are covered anyways so no goods claim against it through paypal. There are some good wholesalers on this site for this type of thing...as for cash on delivery..well thats between you and the supplier but i would start off with small orders.

Hiya Michael,

Thanks but it was more of a physical 'turn up and purchase' after arranging by phone I was after, as opposed to the delivery idea. basically I would be interested in hearing from anyone who can allow me to inspect the goods and collect and pay at the same time. Any wholesalers out there with this kind of way of doing business? :-)

Yes, you should visit a liquidator or excess inventory company that has a large warehouse, but bear in mind it depends on the volume you purchase as most warehouse managers won't let you inspect just a few things until they know you and had several purchases from you, the best is to visit their places and see for yourself, of course they will have different grades of quality with different prices, you have to shop around ...
